Hitachi Rail has announced plans to introduce the state-of-the-art CBTC (Communications-Based Train Control) signaling system on Paris Metro Line 12.
The contract is valued at approximately €20 million, with an additional option for up to €65 million in maintenance services.
Paris Metro Line 12 spans 17.2 km and consists of 31 stations. Within the Paris Metro network, CBTC has already been implemented or is planned for Lines 3 and 6, making Line 12 the third to adopt the system.
What’s CBTC?
CBTC provides more precise train positioning than traditional fixed-block signaling, making it particularly well-suited for high-frequency metro lines. The system is highly effective in service recovery during delays, further solidifying its status as a next-generation signaling technology.
In Asia, CBTC was first introduced on the Singapore MRT in 2003 and has since been widely adopted in China, South Korea, and Taiwan.
